| Competition Rules. |
| 1 Each competitor plays five games and the one with the most points wins. |
| 2 All games shall be played under normal North Staffs and District Chess Association rules. |
| 3 Entry fee is £5.00 per person (Juniors free), No refund will be made once a player has played their first game. |
| 4 All games must be played before the date of the next scheduled round. Rounds will be spread over 2 weeks so that everyone is not playing on the same night. If you are unable to play your match you must notify your opponent a.s.a.p. and re arrange the game. If a suitable date cannot be arranged before the next round, your opponent will be awarded the game, irrespective of the reason for the game being cancelled. If the game is cancelled within one hour of the start time (7.45), your opponent may claim the game automatically, with a clear conscience!! |
| 5 all clocks must be started by 8.00pm at the latest. |
| 6 Byes. You may claim a half point bye for any round except round 5. You can only do this once. You must notify me of your intention to claim a bye before the draw is made for that round. |
| 7 Prizes will be awarded to the winner, runner up and the highest placed player with a grade of under 80 (unless winner or runner up) A prize will be awarded for the best game played, using the formula for this year,s player of the year competition. If two or more players finish on equal points position will be decided as follows- (A)The highest score between games 2-5 then if still equal, games 3-5 then games 4 and 5 and if still equal the best score in round 5. If still equal a rapid playoff will be arranged. (B) If 2 players are tied for best game award, the one who defeated the higher grade will be deemed the winner. If only two players finish on equal points then the result of their game will be taken into account before point 'A' above is used. |
