| Competition Rules. |
| 1 This year's competition will be run as a swiss tournament.
Each competitor plays five games and the one with the most points wins. The
winner shall receive the championship trophy and a medal. Funds permitting there
will be medals/prizes for runners up, and highest placed player with a grade of
80 or below provided they are not the winner or runner up. |
| 2 All games shall be played under normal North Staffs and
District Chess Association rules and any rules pertaining to Swiss competitions
except for those i have added below. |
| 3 Entry fee is £4.00 per person, with free entry to the
knockout competition. No refund will be made once the first round matches have
been played. |
4 All games must be played before the date of the next
scheduled round. Try to play your games A.S.A.P. not necessarily on the
date notified!! I will try to spread the rounds over 2 weeks so everyone
is not playing on the same night. If you are unable to play your match you must
notify your opponent a.s.a.p. and re arrange the game. If a suitable date cannot
be arranged before the next round, your opponent will be awarded the game,
irrespective of the reason for the game being cancelled. If the game is
cancelled within one hour of the start time (7.30), your opponent may claim the
game automatically, with a clear conscience!! again irrespective of any
reason given. |
| 5 If you do not turn up for a game your opponent may start
the clock at 7.45, and in all cases all clocks must be started by 8.00pm at the
latest. I hope the above rules are not to severe but it is important that all
matches are decided before the next scheduled round so that Robert is given
enough notice to make the pairings for the next round. |
| Byes. You may claim a half point bye for any round except
round 5. You can only do this once. You must notify me of your intention to
claim a bye before the draw is made for that round. |
Ties. If a player wins a game he/she must note how many
bonus points (BP) they have gained (see chart below) If at the end of the
tournament two or more players finish on equal points then the player with the
most BP shall be deemed to have finished in the higher position. BP are awarded
for games you have won where you have used less than 40 moves to win.
E.g. if you win in 35 moves you get 5 BP. If an opponent that you have
previously beaten withdraws then you may keep any BP you have achieved. If you
claim a game because your opponent cannot attend no BP can be claimed. If
players finish on equal BP then a playoff will be arranged. NB If a player
fails to make a note of their BP after the game, then they shall forfeit any BP
for that game. |
| Only awarded for games you have won. |
