| 21/11/05. - Fenton A make the short journey
to Creda to play their A team who are top of division 2, Ben was
first to finish and gained his first win for the club, i was
second to finish with a draw on board 1 then Richard who also had
a good draw on board 3, Tim bosley on 4 was making his debut for
the club but unfortuanately lost, the result was in Andy's hands
and after a very tough game he managed to gain an advantage and
secure the points for the club, the match ended -

play their B team, with several key players out through illness
we were made up of players from all 3 teams, Geoff and Stuart
from the B team and Carl from the C, Carl and Stuart both had
good wins, unfortuanately the top 3 boards all lost with the

| 15/11/05. - Round 1 of the 8 board cup took
place last night against a strong Broughton Arms side, The best
result was Richard beating a player rated 126, William Rees made
a successful debut for the club winning on board 8, John, Geoff
and Stuart all had good draws, another player making his debut
for the club was Ben Zitha on board 1 against one of the
strongest players in the league unfortuanately after a close
battle Ben made a small blunder that cost him the game. The final

to Cheddleton & Leek Chess Club to face Leek St Edward's C who
currently sit mid-table, two good wins on boards 1 and 2 and a
draw on 4 gave us the win needed to keep us near the top of the

| 02/11/05. - Round 1 of the Under 135 cup
was played tonight away to Kidsgrove, Captain fantastic, Peter to
his team mates continued his winning ways with another fine
display of his chess skills on board 5, Andy won on board 2 with
a great sacrifice, giving him 2 passed pawns, plus draws on board
1 and 4 knocked the home team out of the Cup sending Fenton
through to the Semi-Finals for the first time in the clubs

| 31/10/05. - Fenton C play host to Leek St
Edward's E, Peter gave a rare impressive display of his skills on
the chessboard winning on board 1 against a much stronger player,
Joe on board 2 never looked like losing and added another win for
us, Carls game was very strange, he was a piece down and staring
defeat in the face, 10 minutes later i returned to the board and
he was a piece up with an easy endgame to play giving the team
another win and victory over the visitors.

| 31/10/05. - Andy Stott played for the Inter
County U-125 Team on Saturday on board 9 of 16 and impressed with
a very cool performance on his first appearance. |
24/10/05. - A tale of two teams with
several players unavailable the A team was made up of players
from all 3 teams, Geoff and Richard from the B side and Peter
from the C side who after losing probably wished he was at the C
side, Richard fought well and earned a good draw, Geoff had a
close game but was on the wrong side of victory and I was back to
my worst and never looked like winning, Andy played his usual
solid game and earned a good draw on board 1 with the final

was played tonight away to Cheddleton, out-graded on almost every
board this was always going to be a very tough match, the final
score ended (Click link and
scroll down to view scorecard) producing an upset knocking out
the favourites. |

Played 12.10.05, We couldn't ask for a better start to the
season, Steve Emmerton made his debut for the club on board 5 and
won, Andy on board 2 had a close game that ended in another win
and i was making my debut as Captain on board 1 and some how
managed to win after a close battle, Stuart agreed a draw on
board 4 and Geoff on board 3 resigned after a long battle. |

host (fixture reversal) to Broughton Arms one of the strongest
teams in division 2, plus it was the last time that Pete Sargeant
could play for us on a regular basis due to relocation (for some
reason he wont take the day off on match days) a huge asset for
many years he will be missed by all at the club, Sadly he
couldn't leave on a high with a win but at least the team managed
a draw with the score ending -

took place tonight, unfortunately only 6 players from Foley were
able to make it for the 8 board clash, so it was decided that a 7
board match with 1 player from Newcastle representing Foley on
the night, the games provided useful experience for the newest
members of both clubs. The least said about the final score the
better. A general invite from Newcastle has been given to Foley
players to participate in there ½-hour tournament to be
played over the next three weeks. |

wait to discover if they will become homeless, hopefully new

board 5 was defaulted due to Stafford being a player short. The
hero of the night was R Tunstall who pulled back from a piece

knocking Foley A off top spot for now. |

a Secondary 1 division league (the Margaret Hankey League) which
is open to all clubs, and 3 cup competitions. Foley Chess Club
currently plays in Division 3, Details are given below of the
composition of division 3 for next season. this may of course
change if teams drop out or new teams join. |
