31/01/07.Last night Fenton D were all at sea against Stafford C, draws on the top 3 board for Danny, Peter and Carl meant that the result on board 4 would decide who got the points, unfortunately winning was a bridge to far for Roy and the points went south to Stafford, the final score ended-

26/01/07.Last night Fenton C journeyed north bravely ignoring the cold climate to take on Alsager C, On paper it looked like a battle for points on the bottom 3 boards mainly because our board 1 was thought to stand no chance against a player rated 72 points higher but Peter hadnt read the script and somehow managed to scrape a draw and with the help of Carl on board 2 and Phil on board 4 the team came away with a valuable point, the final score ended- Alsager C 2-2 Fenton C (scroll down)
25/01/07. - Fenton narrowly beaten in the semi final of the Jackson Cup, played at Stafford chess club (neutral venue) against Boldmere St Michaels, wins on board 2 for John and on board 3 for Steve left everyone watching the battle going on board 1, last to finish - Michael Williams v Mike Harrington ended up being a very close game with Mike Harrington being low on time but at least 2 pawns ahead for a bishop in a close endgame unfortunately Michael Williams couldn't stop the advancing pawns.

03/01/07.Due to a shortage of available dates the postponed Fenton D v Fenton C derby match was played at the home of Newcastle Chess club who kindly allowed Fenton to use their facilities, a much stronger C team just managed to win the clash with wins on board 1 for Michael and on board 4 for Phil and a draw for Carl on board 3. 07/11/06. - Round 1 of the 8 board cup took place last night against a very strong Newcastle side, draws for both Ben and Peter on boards 3 and 7 against much stronger players prevented a whitewash.

25/09/06. - Fenton played host to Caverswall in a pre season friendly known as The South Potteries Chess Challenge, This was a very close match with wins for Geoff and Kamal and draws for Michael, John, Stuart, and Carl, in the end we lost on board count.
20/09/06. - Congratulations to Club member Ben Zitha who won the Intermediate (U121) section of the 2006 Atkins Memorial Congress held in Leicester.
12/09/06. - Steve Emmerton was the winner of the Swiss tournament. as according to Competition Rules- No7 (a)= The highest score between games 2-5 then if still equal, games 3-5 then games 4 and 5 and if still equal the best score in round 5. Andy Stott is runner up using the same rule and the best placed player of under 80 is Peter Tideswell.

08/08/06. - Last night Fenton had a meeting to discuss how many teams we would enter in the new league system, it was decided after a lengthy discussion that we would enter a team in division 2 (650 limit) and 3 (440 limit) plus 2 teams in division 4 (360 limit) we have also decided to ask for an entry in the 8 board cup.

16.05.06 - The last match of the season for Fenton A, Wins on 2 and 3 by Andy and Michael and a good draw on board 1 meant that the game ended in a draw, the bad news is Fenton A are relegated to Division 3 but the good news is Fenton B have won promotion to division 2. Fenton C travel to Creda for the last time since Creda chess club will have a change of venue for their next match, with all the preparation for the change they had not realised that their C team were playing our C team so had to put a team together with little notice and ended up a player short defaulting on board 4, Peter on board 1 won his game, but both Joe and Mark lost on 2 and 3, with Phil claiming the default on 4 the game ended a draw- final score-
