02/08/07. Due to a decline in playing strength and club members Fenton have decided to remove their A team from division 2 and enter division 3 and to place the B and C team into divison 4 and to drop the D team altogether, we hope this is a minor set back and that the club attracts more members so that we can enter divison 2 next year and increase the number of teams competing, click the links below to view each division.

05/07/07. The league AGM took place last night, details can be found on the

I have updated the league tables showing all teams entered to date but these could change before the season begins, Fenton do not have a team in division 1, those interested in division 1 can find details on the Newcastle website

The league will be played in the summer of 2008 as yet no teams have entered.
The draw for the also took place and includes a new U90 4 board cup competition.
It was decided to continue with the new league system for a further year on an experimental basis so that clubs could try making adjustments to their operation in the light of experience gained last year.
Hassell Street School have entered a team in division 4 the team will be made up of pupils and parents their venue will be the bridge club, Newcastle.
Caverswall chess club formerly Creda will now be known as Meir and play at the Royal British Legion on Meir Rd, Normacot. |

22/05/07. - The club held its last night. Click the link for full details, the main changes were as follows-
(1) Venue:- It was announced that the smoking ban due to start July 1st
could interfere with chess play because the smoking area (the beergarden) can only be reached via
the room we use and it was decided that we should change our venue to the
Fenpark Rd,
Fenton for a trial period which will hopefully become permanent, the only negative point is the doors dont open until 7.30pm.
(2) Club fees will be increased for next season.
(3) New roles were created and elected to run alongside that of Secretary and Treasurer, see newly

Tony Holdford with 4 wins and a draw, Ben Zitha was second and Andy Stott and John Amison shared 3rd place.

his emphatic win over Ebrahim Arshad rated 35 points higher.

in the 2007 Staffordshire Chess Congress held at Bloxwich Leisure
Centre Walsall, Ben Zitha along with 2 other players won the U120
section and Carl Mustafa won the U80 Section. |

closest neighbours tonight, unfortunately it turned out to be one
of those nights we would prefer to forget, John Wunderle was

Peter prevented a whitewash with a good draw on board 2. The

06/03/07.After a good draw the previous
Friday, Fenton D were unable to continue where they left off as
they succumbed to a stronger Cheddleton team at The New Penny
last night (Mon 5 March). Things got off to an encouraging start
after Robert earned the "man of the match award" with an
excellent draw against an opponent graded 39 points higher than
himself.
However, the team could not keep the momentum going as Mark and
Joe unfortunately lost on boards two and three. The only other
bright spot was newcomer Lee Jones scrapping for a well earned
draw on the bottom board in only his second game for the club.
