24/05/07. - The draw has been made for round 1 of the 2007 Inhouse Knock-out tournament. click the link and scroll down to view the pairings.
22/05/07. - I recently reported that Fenton have won the Withnall trophy however it looks like we will have to wait a while to receive it because the previous winners Rushall have misplaced it.
22/05/07. - The club held its AGM. last night. Click the link for full details, the main changes were as follows-

(1) Venue:- It was announced that the smoking ban due to start July 1st could interfere with chess play because the smoking area (the beergarden) can only be reached via the room we use and it was decided that we should change our venue to the Pool Dole Inn, Fenpark Rd, Fenton for a trial period which will hopefully become permanent, the only negative point is the doors dont open until 7.30pm.
(2) Club fees will be increased for next season.

(3) New roles were created and elected to run alongside that of Secretary and Treasurer, see newly Elected Club Officers.

(4) The outgoing Club Secretary praised the New League System in his 2007 report.

20/05/07.Well done to club member Ben Zitha rated 107 for winning the U120 section of the 2007 Rhyl Chess Congress. with a 5/5 score. (Result not yet added on their website)(New window)
18/05/07.Our remaining fixture in the Rapidplay will be played on 28/05/07 at our home venue due to Caverswall having venue problems.

15/05/07.Fenton win the Withnall trophy without pushing a pawn in anger after their final opponents Rushall withdraw from the competition. The Withnall is a County Championship for teams of players graded 100 or under more details on the County website. (New window)

14/05/07.Tonight's inhouse rapidplay was won by top seed Tony Holdford with 4 wins and a draw, Ben Zitha was second and Andy Stott and John Amison shared 3rd place. Full results.

03/05/07.(Drum roll) The winner of this year's Player of the Year is Mark Whitby with his emphatic win over Ebrahim Arshad rated 35 points higher. Runner-up Ben and third placed Bill also deserve recognition for exceptional victories against much stronger opponents. Well done to all.
03/05/07.Fenton D ended their season with an excellent win away to Newcastle E, Wins for John, Peter and Mark secured the points. final score-

03/05/07.(Updated)At the start of the season Fenton decided to award medals for those players finishing top scorer in each team, awards are as follows-
Gold. (A team) = John Amison with 5½ points.
Silver. (B team)= Geoff Yates with 5½ points
Bronze. (C team)= Carl Mustafa with 9½ points
Bronze. (D team)= Mark Whitby with 6 points
Rapidplay. = Geoff Yates with 9½ points so far.
30/04/07.The A team finish the season with a win, Andy, John and Steve had draws on the top three boards and Ben and Geoff both had good wins on board 4 and 5. final score-

30/04/07.The C team were also playing their last game of the season, unfortunately the result went the other way, draws for Kamal, Rob and Carl meant that Stuart had to at least draw on board 2, it wasn't to be and the points were lost. final score-

23/04/07.In what was the penultimate match for Both teams and both looking for points for very different reasons this was always going to be a close game, sadly it wasn't to be Fenton's night as Cheddleton C proved too strong on the night and bagged the 2 points taking them to the top of division 2, Ben had an excellent win on board 4 and both Tony and Andy had very close games that ended in draws. final score-

19/04/07.The C team team turned out a man short for their fixture against Newcastle E, a win on board 2 for Robert and draws on 1 for Stuart and on 3 for Carl gave the team a share of the points. final score-

18/04/07.Fenton players win grading prize in the 2007 Staffordshire Chess Congress held at Bloxwich Leisure Centre Walsall, Ben Zitha along with 2 other players won the U120 section and Carl Mustafa won the U80 Section.

16/04/07.They think its all over, it is now for Fenton B as they lose their last game of the season, not even a win by Captain Stuart playing on board 3 could make a difference against a much stronger Caverswall team, Geoff also had a good draw on board 2. Final score-

02/04/07.The A team played host to our closest neighbours tonight, unfortunately it turned out to be one of those nights we would prefer to forget, John Wunderle was first to finish with a win on board 5 and John Amison managed another draw on board 2 but other results went a bit Pete Tong with Ben, Steve and Andy losing in close games. final score-

28/03/07.Fenton A fielded their strongest ever 5 man team tonight with the help of 2 new players, making his debut for Fenton with a good win on board 1 was Ryan Palmer a former Jamaican champion, he also plays for Newport Chess club, also making his debut was Tony Holdford(Newport Chess club)he had a decent draw on board 3 and there were also wins for Steve on board 4 and John on board 5, I would like to thank Mark Whitby who stepped in as non playing Captain due to me not being available. final score-

27/03/07.Last nights match ended Fenton D 1½-2½ Alsager C but due to Alsager breaching the 360 grading limit for the competition, the score has been adjusted to 2-2.The highlight was Geoff graded 100 on board 1 beating a player with an estimated grade of 140. The revised score ended-

21/03/07.Captain Carl playing board 1 chose the best night for his finest hour beating a player rated 20 points above his own grade, Mark and Lee also did their share with good draws on boards 3 and 4 earning a valuable point for the team. The final score ended-
