Fenton Chess Club 2009 AGM Minutes.
Meeting started at: - 7.47pm.
  • (1)These being present on 29/06/08; -

    Stuart Hull, Carl Mustafa, John Amison, Mark Whitby, Geoff Yates,
    Richard Cantliffe, Steve Emmerton, Karl Walklate, Peter Tideswell,
    Joe Orsolics, Neil Davis, Phil Grocott, Brian Johnston
  • (2) Apologies : - None.
  • (3) Minutes from last years AGM available here. Copies shown to members and accepted.
  • (4)
    (a) 2009 Secretary report given and accepted. The main points were that the first half of the season went well and that due to key players being unavailable our form declined at the top level, the high point for the A team was the opening fixture against League champions Macclesfield which we won 4½-½.
    The result that stands out for Fenton B is also the opening fixture against League champions Cheddleton F finishing 2½-1½.
    Fenton C ended an excellent season by finishing as champions, the other high point was that the club won the U101 Withnall Cup beating Rushall B 3-2.
    (b) Treasurer's report accepted. A breakdown of all income and out goings shown to each member. The club's funds at last year's AGM was £72.95p and now stand at £71.75p.
    (c) Publicity officer's brief report accepted. Website upto date and new grades will be added as soon as they are released, players agreed to send in more of their games for the website.
  • (5) Awards presented as follows.
    (a) Performance of the year = Stuart Hull.

    Team awards are as follows-
    (b) Gold. (A team) = John Amison.
    (c) Silver. (B team)= Jarosław Gorski.
    (d) Bronze. (C team)= Robert Taylor.

    (e) The following members were awarded a medal for winning the withnall cup and division 4.
    Richard Cantliffe, Steve Emmerton, Philip Grocott, Stuart Hull, Carl Mustafa, Geoff Yates, Peter Tideswell, Karl Walklate.
    Medals also awarded to Jarosław Gorski, Joe Orsolics, Robert Taylor, Abdulbari Kabiri, Robert West and Mark Whitby for helping the club win division 4.
  • (6) Venue:- The lighting at the New Penny needs to be improved.
    The club Secretary also suggested giving the pub a copy of our fixtures so that they can arrange sandwiches for home matches.
  • (7) Four teams will be entered in the local league, we will also enter the following competitions-
    U110 Cup.(previously U90)
    U130 Cup.(previously U110)
    U150 Cup.(previously U135)
    8 board Cup.
    Withnall Cup.
  • (8) (a) Election of officials-

    New post proposed "Club Statistician" and accepted. (collects statistics for all members past and present)

  • (b) League and Team Captains.

    U130 Cup and Withnall:- Stuart Hull.
    U110 Cup:- Mark Whitby.
  • (9) Club Fees 2008/09.
    (a) Fees for next season will stay at £15 (Employed) and £10 (Unemployed,students and retired) no charge for juniors under 16. It will be £3 to enter the Summer Swiss Competition.
  • (10) Summer Tournaments.
    The club is to keep the Summer Swiss as 6 rounds.
  • (11) Summer Coaching Sessions.
    The club is to invite players from other clubs to coach members, we will also invite a strong player to take part in a simultaneous chess exhibition against members of Fenton Chess Club.
  • (12) The club would like to propose a renaming of League cups as follows-

    U110 = Minor four board trophy.
    U130= Intermediary five board trophy.
    U150= Major five board trophy.
    8 board= Premier eight board trophy.
    This is to prevent any confusion with there previous titles and take into account any future grading change.
  • (13) Any other Business.
    (a) In future a player would have to play at least a third of the fixtures to qualify for a medal.
