| The customary A v B fixture kicked off the league
campaign . Last season the honours went to the B-side so the
A-side were out for revenge. Despite all the pre match banter i
always find these matches a very tense affair.The match on board
1 went as expected, but the games on boards 2 and 3 were both
tight affairs with the two A team players eventually coming out
on top. The only consolation for the B team was a draw on the
bottom board between Carl playing for the A side and Mark. At
least we got the seeds right this season. |

| An excellent win for the A-side against
potentially one of the favourites to win the division. Good wins
for Geoff and John on boards 2 and 3 but special mention must go
to Carl for getting a draw on board 4 in what was only his third
competitive match. |

victory. It was a tense affair with Geoff and John winning on
boards 2 and 3 but it was up to P Sargeant who kept his nerve in
a tense endgame to ensure maximum points were gained and send the
A team joint top of the table. |

board 1 and R Tunstall playing up from the B side saw us safely
home. The only down side was John losing his first game for foley

| Tense? Tense? oh it was tense! I was hoping to get
television cameras in for this top of the table clash, there
would have been millions watching! A very tense (did i mention it
was tense?) match saw John and Richard draw on boards 2 and 3 and
with Roy winning on bottom board it was all down to Captain Geoff
to draw and clinch victory to put us clear at the top of our
division. |

| I dont think we will get any easier games than
this one this season, as 3 of the blinds regulars were
unavailable. Board 2 was defaulted so Geoff didnt have to lift a
finger (or pawn) all evening and boards 3 and 4 were won very
quickly. N Potts stood in for J Amison who was unavailable.

| A first defeat for the 'A' team saw the promotion
bandwagon come slightly off the rails. After defeat on boards 2
and 4, it was up to P Sargeant on top board to try and salvage
something from the game. However he was unable to force the win
needed and Kidsgrove B go top, leading by one point although we
still have a game in hand. With the other promotion contenders
Stafford having to travel to Kidsgrove and then Kidsgrove having
to play again there is still everything to play for. |
